Student Success Center
The purpose of the Student Success Center is to help students of Lamar State College-Port Arthur achieve academic success. It is an integral component of the College's compensatory education programs and assists the College in fulfilling its commitment to students with diverse goals and backgrounds. Services offered by the Center are focused on helping students to develop basic academic skills necessary for beginning college-level work, which allows them to succeed in technical education programs or to complete the core curriculum.
The Student Success Center also assists students to successfully complete courses and programs of study, to prepare for and pass a range of standardized exams, and to develop and improve academic skills essential for success in a baccalaureate program. It is also home to the College's testing services.
The Student Success Center operates in the belief that all individuals should be:

Services
The Student Success Center is located in the Student Success Center Building.
The Student Success Center was designed to meet the needs of students and supports the developmental education instructional program.
Listed below are some of the services provided by the Student Success Center.
Tutoring
Tutoring for math and English is provided by tutors and is free of charge to all students. Tutors are students who have been selected for the position through faculty recommendation and/or test performance. Developmental faculty and a certified math tutor are available to assist students who need additional help.
Computer Lab
A computer lab located in the Student Success Center contains computers and printers for student use. The system provides word processing capabilities and tutorial programs.
DVDs
The Student Success Center maintains equipment to view DVDs on the following subjects:
- Pre-Algebra
- Beginning Algebra
- Intermediate Algebra
- College Algebra
- College Learning Skills
Makeup Exams
Makeup exams may be administered in the Student Success Center. Upon arrival, students sign in on a computer and submit a photo ID for verification. No test will be administered without a student ID. The Student Success Center's staff is responsible for the administration and security of the exams. Cell phones are prohibited while testing in the Student Success Center.
